2020 AP and IB: Last Spring both the AP and IB tests were scaled back because of remote schooling. As a byproduct, they did not include the necessary skills to qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy according to the law:

RCW 28A.300.575
“(1) The Washington state seal of biliteracy is established to recognize public high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in one or more world languages in addition to English.”

Students may take the World Language Competency Credits test to qualify for the Seal.

Adding Seal of Biliteracy to Transcript

The seal of biliteracy is automatically added to the transcript based on testing data twice a year. The student does not need to request the seal if they took the test in the Bellevue School District

Informing Students and Families

Graduating students will receive an email in May to let them know where to pick up their official certificate. Students are marked as proficient as soon as they take the test, but the Seal is only marked as earn on graduation. Students can find the Seal designation on the transcript before graduation.

Seal of Biliteracy
The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
