The Board of Directors for Bellevue School District met twice last month on Sept. 4 and Sept. 25.

Agendas for September focused on items that set the base for the coming school year.

The board noted the First Day of School Report and reviewed the annual reporting calendar.

The district’s five-year strategic plan was reviewed. The board noted the effort put into engaging community and staff while developing the plan. A final version will be reviewed for approval in October.

The board discussed the school visits schedule and the intent of these visits.  School visits remain a valuable tool for the board to gather information on ways to support Bellevue schools, both in their own contexts and districtwide.

The board approved administrator appointments to the Disciplinary Appeals Council: Newport High School Assistant Principal Tom O’Connor and Director of Equity & Strategic Engagement Shomari Jones. The appointments for the remaining members will be reviewed and approved in December.

The board adopted Resolution 2018-24 Affirming the Boards Commitment to Each and Every Student and approved the engagement plan for the equity advisory group. The plan outlines how the district will seek input from the community to identify key policies that require critical updates, so those policies can better provide support for each and every student.

Board liaisons gave updates from their attendance at Bellevue PTSA Council and the Bellevue Schools Foundation meetings. The board acknowledged the effort that went into the Back to School Fair held in partnership with these two organizations, noting that there were more than 1,700 members of the community in attendance.
