Kicking off our We Are Bellevue video series for the 2022-23 school year, International School senior, McKenzie Toomey, reflects on global competency and what it means to be a creator of her future world. McKenzie spoke at the first School Board meeting of the school year about the strong sense of community and unique opportunities for student connections across grades at the International School.

McKenzie’s dedication to the International School (and beyond!) is evident in her senior project. Her goal is to encourage her peers to choose projects that advance a more sustainable future because she believes this is the biggest challenge her generation will face. McKenzie’s plan is to empower students with engagement opportunities and action items all connected to the Bellevue Environmental Stewardship Plan with the goal of making it easier to make a tangible difference. We are so proud of McKenzie and her commitment to her International School community and her dedication to creating a more sustainable future in her global community.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
