High school athletes across the district returned to compete this fall 2021 season and dominated not only on the field, court, course and pool, but also in the classroom. Eighteen teams across the district either made the state playoffs or had individual state qualifiers, all while the district scholar athletes racked up a combined 3.753 GPA, and two teams earned WIAA State Academic Champion honors. Sammamish High School administration embraced the April 26, 2021 state law, HB 1356, “prohibiting the inappropriate use of Native American names, symbols, or images as school mascots” and moved quickly to include the students and community in the deciding on a new mascot. Student leaders along with the student body overcame mixed emotions about the change, and the student body voted for the “Red Hawks” to start this school year after 62 years as the “Totems.” Read More

The Interlake High School volleyball program has seen its share of ups and downs over the years. From winning seasons to tough losses, the coaches and athletes have faced every challenge head-on. Sammamish High School’s Girls Golf team won their first State Championship this week! The team had a score of 143 and 2nd place scored a 97. The Lady Totems, who are also the District 1 2A Champions, sent a total of seven golfers to state where five of their ladies placed!
