Purpose

The purpose of the Grade 4 Social Studies Textbook Adoption Committee is to carry out the instructional materials selection process and make a recommendation to the Instructional Materials Committee based upon objective evidence gathered during the process. The decision will be based on what is in the best interest of our students, alignment with Washington State Social Studies and C3 Framework Standards, and district mission and core values.

Committee Composition

The committee for Grade 4 Social Studies Textbook Adoption Committee will have the following composition:

  • Facilitated by the Social Studies Curriculum Developers
  • Grade 4 Teachers
  • School Administrator(s)
  • Multilingual Learners Facilitator or Developer
  • Special Education Teacher or Developer
  • Parent/Family/Community Representative(s)

The Parent/Family/Community committee members will be selected from the applications submitted.

Role

  • Attend scheduled meetings
  • Serve as a communication link to the community they represent
  • Assist in collecting data regarding the instructional materials under consideration
  • Through a consensus process, make a formal recommendation to the Instructional Materials Committee

Pilot Materials

Experimental use of materials during the 2023-24 school year will include The State We’re In: Washington (Grades 3-5 Edition) textbook and Washington, By and By: A Community Planning Graphic Novel.
