Dear Students and Families:

As this newsletter is being written, the staff is busy organizing the last events for this school year! We have been through so much this year, learned an incredible amount about ourselves, and engaged in new ways of teaching and learning. We want to extend a huge thank you for ALL the support we have received this year from each of you, our amazing Eastgate families. Thank you!

    • The Eastgate staff is excited to see our students as we drive through the Eastgate neighborhoods. We picked routes off main streets where we can drive slowly. We will remain in our cars, and ask anyone who is coming out to see the parade to maintain social distancing practices and to wear a mask. We have divided up into three groups so three different car parades will go by. We can’t wait to see you!

The remainder of this email provides end of the year information as well as updates for summer and fall.

Yearbook Updates

If you ordered an Eastgate Yearbook please know that because of printing delays due to Covid, Lifetouch has informed us that books will not be delivered to the school for at least another 6 weeks. A PTA Representative will be in touch with you once they are sorted and ready to be distributed. If you have any further questions, or have moved, please email the PTA at contactus@eastgatepta.org. Thank you so much for your order and we know it will be worth the wait!


Materials Drop Off and Pick Up

The drop off and retrieval process will take place in the parent drop off zone at the main entrance of the school. Below you will find the timeline try to come at the assigned time slot by grade level. There will be several “stops” along the drive. You will first be met by a greeter. You may either have your child’s first and last name and grade written on a piece of paper in your front window, or you will tell this information to the Greeter Station staff member. If you have one or more student(s) at Eastgate, please let us know as soon as you arrive at the Greeter Station. Staff will start preparing for your student(s) item drop off and student(s) material pickup as you continue to drive through the loop. Each station will be clearly marked. We thank you in advance for your patience as we gather your students’ materials.

The exchanges will take place via your vehicle in the student drop-off/pick-up zones. To maintain social distancing procedures, we ask that you do not exit your car. To manage traffic flow, we are scheduling families for specific times based on grade level.

We ask that you look for the following items in preparation:

  • Textbooks and classroom reading books
  • Library books
  • Laptops and hot spots if you are not participating in summer opportunities
  • Graphing calculators
  • Musical instruments for current 5th graders or students not returning to their school’s music program in the fall

Please note that this will not be a complete list as some items are not tracked via the Destiny system.

Drop Off/Pick Up Protocol:

As you pull into the school, you will be met by a greeter who will ask you for your child’s first and last name and grade level.*  This information will be used to gather your students’ belongings which have been pre-packed by their teacher. At each station, a staff member will either bring you your child’s materials, or retrieve materials from you. We ask that you separate your items into the following groupings for easier gathering:

Please have these items ready to be dropped off and / or picked up at the following stations through the drive circle at Eastgate Elementary.

Station 1 – Library Book drop off

Station 2 – Classroom and Curriculum Books drop off

Station 3 – Student Material Pick-up

Station 4 – Student Medication Pick-up

Station 5 – Technology drop off (Laptop, laptop charger, laptop case, hotspot, hotspot cord, stylus pen)

Station 6 – Instrument drop off

*If you are walking to the school, please see the greeter and they can direct you through the process.  Please wear a mask.

If you are not feeling well including any of the following symptoms (but not limited to):

  1. A fever within the last 72 hours
  2. Coughing
  3. Shortness of breadth
  4. Vomiting
  5. Body aches

Or if you or someone in your family or someone you have been in close contact with is showing signs of COVID-19 including the symptoms above, please stay home.  More information regarding symptoms is available on CDC website.  Please do not participate at this time.  See information below.

Please practice good hygiene and physical distancing including:

  1. Frequent hand washing
  2. Avoid touching your face including eyes, nose, and mouth
  3. Frequently use hand sanitizer
  4. Remain at least 6 feet apart from others.

End of Year Progress Reports

The last day of school is June 19. Progress reports will be available on ParentVue and StudentVue after 12:00pm on Wednesday, June 24th. You have access to view progress reports and attendance on ParentVue or StudentVue, in our learning management system. Summer and Fall Information

Return-to-School Planning – Planning for Fall: The Bellevue School District is continuing to solidify our plans for fall. This planning includes our learning community. One way to participate is to take our survey.

  • Listen in on Fall Planning. The Bellevue School District has been organizing a fall planning team including a Steering Committee that will be tasked with providing on-going feedback to the implementation team and ensuring the plan satisfies the Board’s commitment to our students and community. The committee will be holding its first virtual meeting on Wednesday, June 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Join Us via Microsoft Teams


Summer Nutrition Program

BSD will continue to provide free meals to any child 18 and younger during the summer. Our nutrition program will be offered at Lake Hills and Sammamish High School, providing meals June 29 through August 13. https://bsd405.org/FreeSummerMeals

P-EBT, or Pandemic EBT Emergency School Meals Program: Because of COVID-19, families qualifying for free or reduced priced meals for their children can apply for assistance buying groceries. Apply for P-EBT by August 31 at www.WashingtonConnection.org or call 877-501-2233. To be eligible for P-EBT, families must be approved for free or reduced priced school meals by June 30.  To complete an application for school meal benefits go to www.bsd405.org/freeandreduced.


Enrollment and Information for 2020

Although there are still many unknows about next year, the staff at Eastgate is moving forward to ensure we are well prepared and able to support each of our students. We are asking families to communicate their intention to return to Eastgate in the fall. This information guides us in staffing decisions and classroom placement. Use of School Grounds for Recreation

As we enter the summer months, we know many students and community members would like to use our recreation facilities. Effective immediately, we will be reopening our tennis and pickleball courts to the public, in line with Department of Health guidelines.  Signs are posted at each facility explaining the physical distancing expectations. The courts at International and Tyee will not be open to the general public until Monday, June 22. Our fields, basketball courts and playgrounds will remain closed until King County enters Phase 2, at which time we will begin allowing groups of 5 or less, following the Safe Start guidelines.

This new hotline has been established to guide and direct families to the essential resources within the Bellevue School District, specifically in regard to nutrition, childcare, technology and social/emotional support.  Hours of operation are 9am-1pm, Monday to Friday with operators in English and Spanish.  Families will have the ability to leave voicemail messages outside of operating hours and calls will be returned the following business day.
