August 24, 2022 – Wilburton Community Newsletter

A Note from the Administration

Chhoun Mey, Principal

Stephanie Mathias, Assistant Principal

Dear Wilburton Families and Parents,

We can’t believe summer is almost over and school is about to begin! We are so very excited to welcome all of our students and families to the start of the school year. The school building is always a bit of a strange place to work in during the summer. It’s just a school building during the summer months and transforms into a school community when students, families and staff are back in it. We eagerly await welcoming back everyone next week and the week after.

Although, we are still dealing with COVID in the community and probably will do so for the foreseeable future, we are loosening our limitations and restrictions and shifting back to pre-pandemic guidelines. Please contact us or stop by the school this week or next week if you have any questions. 425-456-4300

In Partnership,

Chhoun Mey

Stephanie Mathias

First Day of School and Bell Times First Day of School and Bell Times:

The first day of school for students in Grades 1-5 is Thursday, September 1st. The first day of school for kindergarten is Wednesday, September 7th.

Wilburton will have the same bell times as in previous years. Class begins at 8am each day and ends at 2:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays, school ends at 12:15pm.

School Meals School Meals: Since the beginning of the pandemic, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has allowed meals to be provided to students at no cost to families. The waivers for this practice expired on June 30, 2022. As a result, the district will start charging for meals starting this school year.

Your children may qualify for free or reduced priced meals based on household income. Applications for free and reduced meals are open on August 15 and can be found here.

Wilburton will be offering breakfast and lunch at school.

Breakfast starts at 7:40am.

Class Placement Class Placement:

Families will be notified of your student’s teacher/class placement via email on August 29th. If you do not receive this email, feel free to call the Wilburton office beginning on August 30th at 425.456.4300.

Teacher Meet and Greet Teacher and Family Meet and Greet: Tuesday, August 30th from 3pm-4pm

We invite all of our families to this year’s Teacher and Family Meet and Greet. We want the time for students and families to come inside the school building and explore the different areas of the school building and also meet any other available staff members here too. We will be encouraging students and families to visit their classrooms to meet teachers and be able to see their classrooms. Teachers are still preparing and setting things up, so classrooms may still be in a work in progress when you visit

While this is a great opportunity to meet teachers and staff, it is not an ideal time to have conferences with teachers with the time be very limited. Families, if you need to or would like to discuss anything in depth with classroom teachers, please contact them to set something up outside this time.

On your way out of the building, The PTA has arranged for the Chillz Popsicle Truck to be in our parking lot for you to purchase an ice cream or popsicle to enjoy if you would like.
