Congratulations to Patty Shelton, Social Studies Curriculum Developer for the Bellevue School District, on being named Teacher of the Year by the Washington State Council for the Social Studies for 2015-16!

According to a press release from WSCSS, “Shelton is being recognized by the Council as a leader in social studies who has made lasting and substantive contributions to the social studies at both the local and state levels.”

WSCSS sited Shelton’s work aligning the social studies curriculum to the Common Core State Standards and the College, Career, and Civic Life framework, as well as her collaboration with other educators, and her commitment to students and teachers.

Shelton was presented with the award at the WSCSS 2016 Chelan Conference and Retreat on March 12, 2016.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
