Highlights

The board approved a summary of district capital bond projects as of April 23, 2018.

The board approved establishing the Julian Tuan Entrepreneurship Award in memory of Julian Tuan, a Big Picture student who passed away in 2017.

Director of Facilities & Operations Jack McLeod recommended the board approve Change Order No. 7 for the Bennett Elementary project in the additive amount of $343,704.

Supervisors of Programs for Multilingual Learners Heidi LaMare and Jennifer Johnson presented an English Language Learners department report with a focus on the value of transitional bilingual instruction.

Executive Director of Student Services Judy Buckmaster and Director of Security Doug James presented a report on school safety as a follow-up to Board Resolution No. 2018-05. The report included a review of the district Safety and Security Plan and a references to a Framework for Safe and Successful School Environments and Best Practices.

Board Director Christine Chew recommended that the board approve four Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA) Legislative proposals: Call for Law Enforcement School Resource Officers in the Northshore District, School Safety, Social Emotional Learning and Firearms Regulations. The board approved the four proposals with two amendments to the Firearms Regulations proposal.

The board reviewed a draft letter to the community as follow up to the Community Forums conducted in October, January, and March.

The board conducted a second reading of Policy 3120: Resident Student Enrollment and Policy 3141: Nonresident Student Enrollment. The board recommended additional changes to Policy 3120 and approved Policy 3141.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
